I used to be a Headcrab in a combine Control, and I must say....that was extremely fun. I developed the Headcrab class, and how we did it was spawn a Headcrab shell, put a chair in it after scaling it down and then had the Headcrab sit in, launch it via Headcrab canister launcher. The fact you would be hurtling through city as just so engaging. We had also had different types of Headcrabs for different scenarios. I could, if you like the idea, re-construct our set up.
